Public hearing regarding the Draft law on religious freedom and legal position of religious communities in Kosovo

Last version of the Draft law on religious freedom and legal position of religious communities in Kosovo endured lots of changes, due to non-consultation of the experts that drafted this law and religious communities. The name of religious communities should also content the country name “ Kosovo, meanwhile leaders of these communities should be local. In the draft law, the name mosque, church or other temple is mentioned nowhere. The law should offer the freedom of establishment of the incomes and for religious communities, as well as for establishment of different institutions.

This requires that during the amending the draft law to take in account all the remarks, in order that Kosovo to have a better law. These were some of essential ascertainments of the public hearing regarding the draft law on religious freedom and legal position of religious communities in Kosovo, organized by the Committee for Committee for Judicial, Legislative Matters and Constitutional Framework, Gender Equality, Petitions and Public Complaints of the Assembly of Kosovo, chaired by Hydajet Hyseni Chairperson of the Committee.

When in question the remarks that draft law endured big changes, by representatives and sponsors of this draft law (Government of Kosovo), was said that those remarks were done after the remarks of international institutions acting in Kosovo, in order that coming law should fulfill European standards.

The participants agreed on the ascertainment that Kosovo in the field of doctrine has a pure tradition of tolerance and coexistence, which is in function of prosperity of all citizens.

From the Committee was taken the decision that remarks of this debate will be taken in account during the amending of the draft law in further procedure.
